Dr Gareth Dunkerley B.V.Sc.

Head Veterinary Surgeon
Gareth is the owner of Ponsonby Veterinary Centre. He is originally from Hawkes Bay and qualified from Massey University, Palmerston North in 1999. Gareth spent 7 years working in London in companion animal general and emergency practice before returning to Auckland to head the team at Ponsonby Veterinary Centre.
Gareth enjoys all aspects of small animal internal medicine and his involvement in emergency practice in London has given him a keen interest in this area of veterinary care. His other areas of interest are dentistry and imaging.
Gareth is a keen horseman. He spent many years pursuing his interest in eventing and hopes that one day he will find the time to jump back into the saddle. He also enjoys swimming, going to the gym and running.

Dr Sarah Mazengarb B.V.Sc

Veterinary Surgeon
Sarah has joined our team at Ponsonby after she moved up from Tauranga. Some of you may have met her while she covered for Gareth when he broke his arm last year. Now she is here to stay. Although Sarah enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine she has special interests in soft tissue surgery and feline medicine and has a real soft spot for burmese cats. This year she is doing some further surgical training through Sydney University.
Outside of work Sarah enjoys mountain biking, hiking and a good strong flat white.

Dr Elena Bryant B.V.Sc

Veterinary Surgeon
Elena has recently joined our team in a part time capacity. Elena graduated from Massey University at the end of 1994, and has practiced in Wellington, South England and Auckland. She thoroughly enjoys all aspects of companion animal veterinary medicine and surgery. Elena returned to her native city of Auckland after living abroad and now resides in Glen Innes with her staffi 'Illusion' (Illy) and a cat (or ten!).
Outside of work, she has an enthusiasm for gardening, reading, walking/hiking, anything to do with the beach, sun and seasports as well as a glass of a great tannic cabernet sauvignon.

Rebecca Howard

Head Veterinary Nurse
Rebecca graduated from Unitec in 2002 with a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing and joined us in 2007. She is a very talented nurse and we enjoy her upbeat friendly attitude and caring dedication to her work. Rebecca lives in Botany Downs with her boyfriend and their cat Dudley.
Outside of work she enjoys beach walks, shopping and a quality chick flick movie.

Roanne Trimmer

Veterinary Nurse
Roanne joined the Ponsonby team in November 2007. Roanne came to us with almost 2 years vet nurse experience and has completed a Certificate in Veterinary Nursing through Otago Polytechnic. She is extremely good at what she does and we enjoy having her on the team. Roanne lives in Westmere with her partner and 3 cats.
Outside of work she enjoys boating, walking and art.

Katie Jones

Veterinary Nurse/Receptionist
Katie has recently joined us after graduating from her diploma in Veterinary Nursing at Unitec. She originally hails from Wellington but enjoys Auckland and has settled in very well with her bubbly personality and hard-work ethic. Katie is involved both out the back in the clinic hospital and on the reception desk, and also takes the Puppy Preschool classes.
Outside of work, Katie enjoys rock climbing and most outdoor pursuits.

Jessica Foeken

Veterinary Nurse
Jessica comes to us with 8 years experience as a veterinary nurse and is originally from Sydney, Australia. She has recently returned from London, where she worked at the RSPCA Animal Hospital which is the largest animal hospital in London. She enjoys all aspects of the job especially abscesses and dentals. Jessica will also be helping to run Puppy Preschool classes.
Outside of work enjoys photography, swimming and movies, and she also plays the violin.

Steph Dowling

Veterinary Nurse
Steph has joined us recently as a veterinary nurse. She has been nursing for 4 years and moved up to Auckland to join the team. She trained at Waikato Polytechnic and has a special interest in surgery and also neonatal care. Outside of work, Steph enjoys art, music and exploring the Auckland social scene.

Cathryn Sanda

Receptionist
Cathryn is the head receptionist here at Ponsonby Vet Centre. She also volunteers at the SPCA in the dog ward. Cathryn is from an accounts and marketing background and does a great job managing all events and client relations at the clinic. Cathryn has spent several years travelling overseas and has now settled in Birkenhead with her husband.
Outside of work she enjoys outdoor life, cooking and the wineries of Waiheke Island.

Nikki Worthington  |
Receptionist
Nikki has recently joined the team as our new receptionist. She has a strong background in customer service and reception. She is able to help you with any questions and queries about your animals over the phone or at the front desk. Nikki has plans in the future to study veterinary nursing. At home she lives with her three children, a dog called 'Sam' and her cat called 'Puss' Outside of work she enjoys bush walks, sports and going to the beach.
