Kitten Kindergarten

The Ponsonby Veterinary Centre runs regular Kitten Kindergarten classes. These are enjoyable and informative evenings for both you and your kitten. Safe play, handling, socialising and problem prevention all form part of the classes along with some basic training.
Our classes are structured to incorporate kittens after their first vaccination, starting the course at 7-16 weeks of age. Research has shown that from 7 weeks old a kitten's learning capacity is as great as it will ever be and the peak socialisation period is from this age to about 16 weeks. The course consists of two classes at weekly intervals each lasting approximately 1 - 1½ hours, to be held in the evenings. The cost is $60.

Nutrition
How to play with your kitten - avoiding rough play.
Environmental enrichment
Play time

Session 2

Handling techniques for grooming, nail clipping, dental care and giving tablets
Training - learn to 'come' and 'sit'
Fleas and worms
First aid
Desexing
Graduation
Play time

Class requirements

The kitten must be aged between 7 - 16 weeks old
The kitten must have had their 1st vaccination, and have been vet checked
The kitten must not be showing any signs of contagious illness such as diarrhoea, runny eyes, runny nose, sneezing, coughing or any rash
Please do not feed your kitten within 2 hours of attending the class (this will make treats more desirable)
